Xcel Energy’s Commitment to Student Success

Xcel Energy’s long-standing partnership with BestPrep continues to shape meaningful learning experiences for Minnesota students. For more than three decades, the company has steadily provided volunteers and funding in support of BestPrep’s programs

Xcel Energy employees have continuously volunteered as mentors, most recently in BestPrep’s Cloud Coach program at Washington Technology Magnet School, guiding the school’s entire ninth-grade student body through goalsetting and career exploration. Volunteers have also stepped into classrooms to share practical insights on careers, interviewing and financial literacy, topics that help students build confidence as they prepare for life after high school. Their involvement extends into the summer as well, where employees participate in Minnesota Business Venture as breakout speakers and mock interviewers, helping high school students practice professional skills in a supportive environment.

Xcel Energy’s history with BestPrep includes decades of board leadership, major event participation, and consistent financial support. Leaders such as Marilyn Corrigan, Mark Fritch, Dave Harkness, and Michael Remington, helped strengthen the partnership over the years, contributing to program growth and expanding opportunities for students. The company has supported nearly every BestPrep initiative, from mentoring programs to educational technology workshops, and has provided thousands of volunteer hours.

Today, BestPrep board member and Xcel Energy’s Vice President Deputy General Counsel, Hanna Coleman, continues that legacy, ensuring Xcel Energy remains an active partner dedicated to student success. She shares, “BestPrep has been a valued community partner to Xcel Energy for more than thirty years, connecting Xcel employees with high school students across the cities where we work and live. Getting to know a young person and learn about their life and dreams is always a special opportunity, and BestPrep makes it easy for us to do that year after year. Without fail, our employees leave feeling energized and inspired, having learned just as much from the students as they hopefully learn from us.”

With a focus on community engagement and career readiness, Xcel Energy’s involvement continues to open doors for young people across Minnesota, demonstrating what long-term corporate commitment can achieve.
