2017 Call for TIW Registration

June 30 is the deadline for educators to register for this summer’s Technology Integration Workshop, a four-day professional development opportunity for educators interested in learning and integrating new technologies into their classroom. The workshop takes place July 31 – August 1 at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business in downtown Minneapolis.


Robbinsdale Cooper Educator Selected as Teacher of the Year

On May 23, more than 540 supporters celebrated with us at BestPrep’s Annual Luncheon. The 2017 Teacher of the Year recipient was Amanda Lieser of Robbinsdale Cooper High School. She has engaged her AVID students in BestPrep programs and expanded her efforts to involve all 1,600 students at Cooper High School!


Minnesota Students Bring Home National Awards

Four students from Minnesota placed in the national rankings for InvestWrite, an essay competition open to all students participating in The Stock Market Game. While more than 9,000 essays were submitted nationwide, students at Ridgeview Elementary School placed 1st, 2nd, and 5th at the elementary school level, and one students at Minnehaha Academy placed 6th at the high school level.


Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

BestPrep’s summer programs are just around the corner! Volunteers are needed for both Minnesota Business Venture (MBV) and the Technology Integration Workshop (TIW). MBV opportunities include helping students with interviewing skills, teaching students about financial literacy, and judging students’ business plan presentations. The TIW opportunity includes hosting a teacher for a half-day job shadow.


A Surprise at the WEM Outstanding Educator Awards Brunch

BestPrep CEO Bob Kaitz was surprised with the Excellence in Education Award at the WEM Outstanding Educator Awards Brunch on May 20th. While a surprise to Bob himself, BestPrep staff and board members had been plotting and planning for weeks to keep the honor a secret.


Student Essay Competition Winners Announced

The top 20 essays for BestPrep’s Educational Forum Student Essay Competition have been selected, representing 15 schools across Minnesota. In coordination with the Educational Forum keynote address topic, students submitted essays which explored the topic of character and education. Student Laura Rishovd in Denise Green’s class at Elk River High School took first place out of a total of 415 essay submissions.


General Mills Volunteer Wins Top Award at 2017 Annual Luncheon

On May 23, more than 540 supporters celebrated with us at BestPrep’s Annual Luncheon. The 2017 Volunteer of the Year recipient was Jonathan Faloon of General Mills. Jonathan has been an avid volunteer, provided leadership and guidance to BestPrep, and helped recruit volunteers within General Mills to support Minnesota students.
