Ameriprise Financial: A Legacy of Financial Education and Service

For more than four decades, Ameriprise Financial has been a dedicated supporter of BestPrep’s mission to help students become financially capable and career ready. The partnership began back in 1981, when Doug Lennox, a financial advisor, spoke at BestPrep’s newly-established business camp, Minnesota Business Venture. His presentation, “You Can Be a Millionaire,” encouraged students to start saving early, even if it meant putting aside fifty dollars a month.

That moment marked the beginning of a lasting relationship that has thrived for 44 years. Since then, Ameriprise has provided consistent support through board leadership, financial contributions, and hundreds of volunteers who give their time to students each year. The first Ameriprise board member was Dan Willius, and today, Tamela Saulsberry proudly continues that legacy.

Ameriprise has been involved in several BestPrep programs, including eMentors, Classroom Plus, Financial Matters, and The Stock Market Game™. Their employees have helped shape lessons, led financial literacy sessions, and shared real-world insights about careers and money management.

Since joining eMentors in 2011, Ameriprise volunteers have contributed more than 8,000 hours connecting with students. About 60 employees currently volunteer each year, mentoring students, sharing career advice, and helping students gain confidence for their futures.

Phaedre Sanders, Tax Accountant at Ameriprise Financial and BestPrep’s Emerging Leaders Alliance (BELA) Board Liaison, shared, “The partnership between Ameriprise and BestPrep has been incredibly rewarding. Even though we do it for students, my volunteers always offer such positive feedback on how the program benefits them from personal fulfillment and purpose.”

BestPrep is deeply grateful for Ameriprise Financial’s partnership and their continued dedication to empowering Minnesota students to reach their goals.

Thank you, Ameriprise Financial, for all you do!
