First place winner Lauren Rishovd
Thanks to the sponsorship of Thomson Reuters, BestPrep conducted the student essay competition this spring for Minnesota high school students in conjunction with the Educational Forum. This year’s essay prompt challenged students to consider the role of character development in their education, and a record 415 high school students submitted essays from all across the state.
The top 20 winners and their teachers and families will attend a special student reception with featured speaker Alan Page and Rick King, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Thomson Reuters. The students will receive their prizes and get to take part in a Q & A session with Alan Page, followed by a panel discussion on the topic of character with Thomson Reuters employees.
The top five winners in the competition were:
- Lauren Rishovd, Elk River High School
- Sophia Kruger, Elk River High School
- Bashir Muhumed, Southwest High School
- Emily Sizen, Elk River High School
- Amanda Krinke, Buffalo High School
The competition would not have been possible without the help of 112 volunteer essay judges, as well as the support of all of the incredible teachers. Congratulations to our top 20 Why Character Matters essay competition winners, and to all who participated!
