BestPrep has selected senior Keleenah Yang from Como Park Senior High School in St. Paul to read her essay during the 2017 Educational Forum featuring former Associate Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court Alan Page. Out of a record 415 submissions from across Minnesota, Keelenah was selected as a top 20 finalist. In her essay, Keleenah addressed the questions: “Why is it important for students to develop their character alongside academics?” and “How has your educational journey and life experiences developed your character?” Her essay reflects on her personal journey and her experiences as a Hmong daughter and an American. She credits her educational journey with helping her embrace all aspects of her identity, writing, “The friends I made, and the teachers at my school, helped me to see that I am not alone in this battle to find oneself, and I have never been.”
Prior to the Educational Forum, Keleenah and the top 20 essay winners will join keynote speaker Justice Alan Page and the other student winners at an Essay Competition Awards Ceremony and reception. We hope you can join us the evening of October 24th to hear Keleenah’s story, as well as the keynote address: “Tomorrow’s Leaders: Why Character Matters,” presented by Justice Alan Page.
