Mentors can play an important role in preparing students to be prepared for life after high school. However, with busy schedules for students and business professionals, finding time to meet for regular visits often poses a challenge.
BestPrep’s eMentors program offers an alternative, by bringing the two sides together through an accessible means of communication – email. The program connects classrooms of students with business volunteers to help them link their learning to the world of work through eight weekly emails and one in-person meeting at the volunteer’s company.
But, does the experience really have an impact?
BestPrep received the message below from teacher Rachel Busch at Buffalo High School, whose students just completed their first eMentors experience:
“After a couple of weeks of doing the eMentors emails, I could tell that my students’ focus in class improved. Their attention to detail heightened because they had heard from their mentors that communication and detail are important [at work]. I also heard less of “when are we ever going to use this?”, because the eMentors pointed out to them that no classes are ever a waste.”
BestPrep’s eMentors program provides an extension of textbook learning through eMentors who can provide insight on the career skills students need for the future. More information on the program can be found here.
