Minnehaha’s Intro to Business students got a taste of the real world last week when they took a field trip to meet their eMentors at Accenture in downtown Minneapolis. This spring’s MA partnership with eMentors is unique because many of the mentors are based out of Accenture’s Dallas, TX office. During this field trip, the students were able to ‘meet’ virtually by teleconference with many of the mentors in Dallas.
eMentors is an email mentoring partnership between students and volunteer trained professionals from area businesses that help students understand the relationship between classroom learning and career skills. Students send their eMentors weekly emails based on a series of guiding questions. The email exchanges are tailored to enhance the business class curriculum and are monitored by Minnehaha’s business teacher, Julie Johnson.
“Minnehaha’s business classes have been participating in the eMentors program now for many years, and it has provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn how the skills they develop in school, play into their future success in the workplace and in life,” Johnson said.
eMentors is a program of BestPrep, a Minnesota-based educational organization that is committed to connecting education with business resources through active participation in hands-on, experiential activities. Minnehaha’s business classes have also participated in the Stock Market Game and the Invest Write Essay, which are also successful learning tools sponsored by BestPrep.
