A volunteer giving a financial literacy presentation to Minnesota Business Venture students
The Technology Integration Workshop is looking for volunteers to be Business Partners by hosting a teacher for a half-day job shadow experience. The job shadow takes place the afternoon of August 1st at the volunteer’s workplace, and there is a lunch meeting on July 31st at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business in downtown Minneapolis. This volunteer opportunity can be shared by a group within the same organization.
The job shadow typically includes explaining the tasks and projects they typically work on, describing the skills they use in the workplace daily, and discussing the traits needed to be successful in the modern workforce. This is a great opportunity for teachers to learn first-hand the skills their students need to develop in the classroom to be successful in their future careers. Minnesota Business Venture is seeking volunteers to participate in half-day opportunities July 9-14 at St. Cloud State University and July 23-28 at St. John’s University. Volunteers will make a direct impact on the next generation while developing public speaking and presentation skills. These opportunities are also great for groups.
Mock Interviewers are needed on Tuesday, July 11 and 25 from 12:30-3:00 p.m. Volunteers will conduct 10-minute interviews with up to six students. Students will receive on-the-spot feedback, as well as written notes from their interviewer.
Financial Planners are needed on Thursday, July 13 and 27 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Volunteers will present on budgeting and investing, using a pre-created PowerPoint. Students will get the chance to ask questions and discussion financial topics with volunteers.
Business Plan Judges are needed on Thursday, July 13 and 27 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Reminiscent of the television show Shark Tank, volunteers will listen to students’ business plan pitches and provide feedback on the presentation.
